These companies specialise in golf and resort cars and have spent millions in design, research and development to bring the customer an excellent product. They manufacture their cars within the U.S. and some in China, using their own automated facilities and only using the best industry components. But the most import thing is that they are made by established U.S. companies to the customer’s highest expectations, including a proper warranty and factory support.
The locally branded cars are known as “Made to Order” (MTO) carts, which basically mean these carts, are made in China for the Chinese market or who ever will buy them based on price. The fact is these carts aren’t good enough to be used on most of the Chinese golf courses, let alone in the western world.
The majority of retailers of MTO carts can be categorized as one man shows, which see “golf carts” as the next big thing, having moved on from selling cheap items like Chinese electrics or mini scooters. Most have purchased the carts via the internet having never seen how and where the carts are assembled. Most of these Chinese manufactures employ non-skilled labour that make a totally non related item from day to day, based on an order they have received, not a specialised market item. One day a golf cart the next yoga mats.
When these MTO golf carts are ordered from an overseas retailer, the manufacture orders in the cheapest parts to make the carts, as rarely is there a follow up order. There is NO such thing as testing or compliancy, they manufacture doesn’t care that the battery leads are to thin and the cart will catch fire, or the differential leaks because it was miss cast inferior metal. The manufacture is only concerned if it works when it leaves the factory, because under Chinese business practices they all ready have their money, and there are always more retailers who will buy their products without knowing or care how they are made.
Also the manufacture does not give a warranty due to the “made to order” status, and in most cases the local retailer never buys replacement parts for warranty as they have already moved onto the next big thing, mini bikes, electrical, basically what ever makes a quick dollar.
Last year there was over 300 “made to order” golf car makers in China, now there is over 1,000. With this many assembling it’s doubtful that any of them will continue or make a long term business in golf carts.
